The Canadian Reciter
The Canadian Reciter is the public identity of Qari Shah-E-Noor Yakub—a professional Quran reciter born, raised, educated, and qualified in Canada.
His distinctive recitation blends multiple verses in various dialects within a single, unbroken breath. His signature recitation of Surah Ikhlaas is appreciated by audiences around the world.
The work extends beyond recitation: making foundational Tajweed education accessible, opening honest conversations around PTSD and invisible disability, and building a lasting resource for the community.

The journey
From a child captivated by a master reciter to a qualified Qari, community educator, and advocate shaped by resilience.
Born, raised, and educated in Toronto, Shah-E-Noor was captivated in childhood by the recitation of the legendary Egyptian master Qari Abdul Basit Abdus Samad. Listening to and imitating Surah Rahman became the first movement in a lifelong journey with the Quran.
During a family visit to Makkah, he recited verses from Surah Rahman from memory to Qari Siraaj in the Haram. Though he had not begun formal Tajweed education, Qari Siraaj recognized his potential and encouraged his parents to nurture it.
At twelve, he began Hifz under Qari Umar Farouq. The following year, Qari Yunus Ingar taught him the theory and foundations of recitation, while Shaikh Adnan helped develop the vocal and breathing control that would become integral to his signature style.
He completed Hifz on May 24, 2001, at sixteen. While continuing high school, post-secondary, and graduate education in Canada, he served his community, mentored graduates, and advanced in multi-dialect recitation. On September 15, 2012, he completed the qualification establishing his authority as a Qari.
